Marking the 80th Anniversary of VE Day

💙 Marking the 80th Anniversary of VE Day 💙

Today, on the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, we pause to remember.

We give thanks for the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who stood against tyranny, and we honour the memory of all who lost their lives in the struggle for peace.

We are a church rooted in the liberal Christian tradition, we reflect not only on the end of war but on the enduring call to be peacemakers — to shape a world where justice, compassion, and reconciliation take root.

In remembering the past, we renew our commitment to a future shaped by service to others, the dignity of every human life, and the love that overcomes fear and division.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” — Matthew 5:9

May we walk in their memory, and in hope.

Election of Pope Leo XIV - Statement

🕊️Election of Pope Leo XIV🕊️

The Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland extends warm blessings and good wishes to our friends in the Roman Catholic Church — here in Northern Ireland, across the island of Ireland, throughout the UK, and across the world — on the election of Pope Leo XIV.

We give thanks for this new beginning and pray for wisdom and grace as Pope Leo takes up his new role. May his leadership be marked by peace, compassion, and a deep care for justice — continuing in the spirit of love and humility so clearly shown by Pope Francis.

As Christians together, we are called to a shared mission: to walk in the way of Christ, serving others, seeking peace, and showing mercy in all we do. In that spirit, may we continue to build friendship, understanding, and hope.

“Let all that you do be done in love.”
1 Corinthians 16:14

Passing of Pope Francis - Statement from the Right Rev Alister Bell, Moderator of the NSPCI

🕊️Passing of Pope Francis🕊️

Statement from the Right Rev Alister Bell, Moderator of the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland, on the Passing of His Holiness Pope Francis

It is with deep sorrow that we receive the news of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. On behalf of the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland, I offer our heartfelt condolences to the Roman Catholic community worldwide.

Pope Francis was a man of deep faith and humility, whose life spoke of compassion, justice, and the love of Christ. His witness to mercy and peace transcended borders, and his commitment to the poor and the marginalised touched hearts across the globe.
We give thanks to God for his life and ministry.

May his legacy encourage us to walk more gently with one another and live out the values of love and reconciliation.

“The Lord bless him and keep him.”
